When is it time to put my Grandparents Poodle to sleep?
My Grandparents are 76 and 81 yrs. old. They are relatively healthy and in good spirits. They had to travel to out of State to help their sick, single daughter, so I am poodle sitting. However…this little dog lays in his bed all day. He only ges up 2 or 3 times to go outside and do his job! THEN he comes right back in and gets under his blanket in his basket, to get warm. This little dog is 12 yrs. old and is feeble and walks like a little crippled little lamb. I wonder if he needs to be euthanized…HELP!!!
From what I can glean from the text of your question, the dog’s quality of life does not seem to be all that bad. Putting the dog down 1st of all is not your decision to make – it is your grandparents. You can offer suggestions about taking him to the vet & have him evaluated & that is as far as you should go. I hope that you do realize he is a family member to them & not just a “dog”. On Dec 4th of ‘06 we had to put our 13 1/2 yr old Std Poodle down & it was 1 of the toughest decisions ever.
